Direct Support Connect™ was created to help address the shortage of direct support workers in Minnesota. The resource is funded through collective bargaining agreements with the State of Minnesota and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Minnesota — the union that represents direct support workers in PCA Choice, Consumer Directed Community Supports and the Consumer Support Grant.
Direct Support Connect™ is designed for people who hire individual direct support workers and for direct support workers (or people interested in becoming direct support workers).
Anyone who needs a direct support worker to assist with daily needs can use Direct Support Connect™. This includes people on waiver programs, PCA programs or other related programs, as well as people who don't participate in state-funded programs.
Anyone who provides direct support services can register with Direct Support Connect™.
The Direct Support Connect™ online job board is free.
Direct support workers are not required to be union members to register with Direct Support Connect™.
If desired, information about SEIU is available through the SEIU Action Center:

Agencies and fiscal support entities use UMPIs to bill the state for a worker's services. If you are a direct support worker, you receive this number after enrolling as a direct support worker through the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS).
To be given an UMPI, you must:
An UMPI number is required only when providing care for someone who is receiving Medical Assistance (Medicaid). You are not required to provide an UMPI number to register with Direct Support Connect™. However, providing an UMPI number allows the DHS provider enrollment database to validate your information. It also means we can display any personal care provider agencies or fiscal support entities you are affiliated with in your profile. The affiliation information is often helpful for people looking for support workers.
If you lose your UMPI number, contact your current agency or fiscal support entity (or previous employer, if you are not currently affiliated with an agency or fiscal support entity).
Some content must be approved before it's displayed in a Direct Support Connect™ profile, including:
The Direct Support Connect™ team reviews "About Me" statements and Llearner IDs during regular business hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The need for further review could result in a publication delay. UMPI numbers are automatically validated by the Minnesota Department of Human Services provider enrollment database.
The Direct Support Connect™ team is available by chat during regular business hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Simply click Chat in the black banner at the top of any page. After hours and on weekends and holidays, email the Direct Support Connect™ team by clicking Contact Us in the gray banner at the bottom of the home page.
